Is this a bug or have I missed something (trying to add an app)

If I create a product, set the payment type as free, When a user goes to create the product it fails saying there is no billing cycle selected. If I think add a billing cycle by setting the Monthly to 0.00, then the user can select it, but it creates it with a message "Please complete payment", and leaves the container in a "pending" state with no way for the user to start it.

With the payment gateways set PayPal and Stripe and the rest set to "Inactive", when I create a service as a user with a cost of 0.0 it gives me the option for a bank transfer or a manual payment. What happened to the 2 payment gateways I chose ?

A user with a balance of $0.0 in "Clients/View/Search Clients/select a client" shows a balance of $0.00AUD and is status of "UNPAID" even though the service had a cost of $0.00. After adding a credit manually of $100.00 the status of $0.00AUD is still saying "UNPAID". The invoice for this service is set as paid.

I'm unable to find any way to add an app (I'm testing with uptime-kuma) and have it in anything other than "Pending". I have tried following the documentation and a number of other ways that looked possible (eg allocating more RAM than it needs, same with CPU) without success.

I think I have found the issue. I think in my testing I may have deleted my test user and recreated it in an incorrect order or out of sequence. Either way creating a service in pnlcs hasnt auto created a user in panelica. I have sort of confirmed this by rolling back my system and seeing there was a test user in there. It's too late to continue testing now, so I'll continue tomorrow and see what I discover.

I did have a problem with users syncing. When I was creating a new user on PNLCS, it wasnt creating a user in Panelica. My issues now are
1. An admin needs to "Activate" an app when a user adds it. The user adds a free app (which still needs a billing cycle to work) and that creates the app from the PNLCS view but doesnt create anything on Panelica even though the app on PNLCS shows as active. If I try to use PNLCS to connect to Panelica via the "Login to control panel" on the service, I get the error message "No panel account is linked to this service". How is this linking created and what have I got thats possibly not configured correctly ?

I have the Panelica added to PNLCS and the test button says the connection is successful.

Problem found. I'm going to report this as a bug as it's not at all obvious whats gone wrong.

To create the problem, Create a service (I created one with all the apps in it), Go to PNLCS and login as a user. Create the app on a domain. It all works. Now log in to PNLCS as admin, Locate the users app, terminate it then delete it. The problem is now armed. If you now try to create a service that uses the same domain name, it gets stuck in the "Pending" state even though you deleted the app that had that domain.

Hi @dualarrow,

Thank you for the detailed write-up, and for putting PNLCS and Panelica through their paces.

A quick note first: this forum is for Panelica itself. PNLCS has its own community at community.pnlcs.com and its issue tracker on GitHub, where the PNLCS team answers. We passed everything in your post on to them, and here is where each point stands.

1. The app stays "Pending" and "No panel account is linked to this service"
This is the one you then reported as #212. The status buttons at the top of a service page (Active, Terminated, …) only change the record in PNLCS; the account on the Panelica server is ended with Module Actions → Terminate. After a service was marked Terminated and deleted, its account and domain stayed on Panelica, so a new order for the same domain was refused and sat in Pending. Fixed in PNLCS 1.7.0: closing a service now asks whether to terminate the account on the server, a domain already on the server is refused while ordering, and a setup that cannot finish says why.

2. A free product asks for a billing cycle
The product form starts every price at -1 ("not sold"), so a product set to Free with its prices left as they were had no cycle to offer. A free product with no prices is now ordered as Free, with nothing to pick. Until the next release, entering 0.00 for one cycle (as you did) is the way.

3. A $0 order says "Please complete payment"
The invoice of a $0 order is marked paid as soon as the order is placed, so that message was wrong. A free order now skips the payment method and takes the customer to their services with "There was nothing to pay".
Whether the app is then set up straight away depends on the product's Auto Setup: with "Only when an admin accepts the order", it waits for an admin, which is the "Activate" step you saw. With "As soon as the order is placed" or "As soon as the first payment is received", it is set up on its own.

4. PayPal and Stripe were not offered
A gateway is offered at checkout only when it is enabled and its required keys are filled in; when none is ready, Bank Transfer is the fallback. The gateway's card under Setup → Payment Gateways now says "Not offered" and names the missing fields.

5. "UNPAID" on the client page
That box is the total of the client's unpaid invoices ($0.00 here), not the client's status, which is why adding credit did not change it. It is now labelled "Unpaid Invoices" and shown in red only when something is owed.

Point 1 is in PNLCS 1.7.0 and 1.8.0, which you can install from Setup → Updates. Points 2 to 5 are in PNLCS main and will be in the next release.

Thanks again; reports like yours are what get these things fixed.

Hi @dualarrow,

Points 2 to 5 above are now released in PNLCS 1.9.0. You can install it from Setup → Updates.

  • A free product works as you create it: set Payment Type to Free and leave the prices as they are. The 0.00 workaround is no longer needed, and a product that already has 0.00 on a cycle keeps that cycle.
  • A free order asks for no payment method and takes the customer to their services with "There was nothing to pay".
  • A gateway that is enabled but missing its keys says "Not offered" on its card under Setup → Payment Gateways, with the missing fields named.
  • The box on the client page reads "Unpaid Invoices" and is red only when something is owed.

The same release also has the "Open app" change you reported as #245: the button now opens the app on its domain.

Thanks again for the reports.
